A lot of people think you can just look a therapist up in a phone book and start working with them. Sometimes this is true and sometimes it isn’t.

Also, some therapists are abusive. Some of them are very skilled at manipulating people and confusing the hell out of them and undermining their autonomy and self-respect.

This is common.

Discussion of therapy needs to acknowledge this.

Yes it does. And in a way that goes beyond “that’s a few bad apples” or “you chose badly, find another”.
